It was an absolutely breathtaking experience and a profound honour to rally an impressive 250-strong support from both our esteemed alumni and current students, culminating in the resounding success of our South East Asia Bicentenary Reception! Our sincerest gratitude goes out to each and every one involved!
Hosted by Deputy President & Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Luke Georghiou, we celebrated The University of Manchester’s remarkable 200-year journey of research, education, innovation, and social responsibility. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, a distinguished alumnus and advisor to the University of Manchester Alumni Association of Singapore (UOMAAS), who currently serves as Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development. Additionally, we were honoured by the attendance of H.E. Alex Bamford, Deputy British High Commissioner, and Richard Cotton, Head of International Development, The University of Manchester, adding to the prestige of the occasion.
Special appreciation goes to our esteemed UOMAAS Patron, Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean, for his heartfelt video greetings, which filled us with immense pride.
The evening was a tapestry of nostalgia, camaraderie, and deep-seated pride as we celebrated our collective accomplishments. Together, we raised our glasses to commemorate the University’s 200-year legacy, the 20th anniversary of the University of Manchester Alumni Association of Singapore, and the 21st year of the Manchester Business School Alumni Association of Singapore (MBSAAS).
A heartfelt appreciation to Hian Seng Tang and Nicole Tretwer for impeccable handling of their emcee responsibilities, and to UOMAAS and MBSAAS for their invaluable time and contributions. Special thanks also go to Markus Karlsson-Jones and Georgia Davies for their support and for joining us in Singapore!
It fills us with joy to witness our global alumni and students coming together, reconnecting, sharing memories, forging new connections, and building networks that will spark fresh ideas, innovations, and positive change across the world!
