Course Overview
This course equips PMETs and innovation stakeholders with the capabilities to transform ideas and inventions into protected, market-ready, and revenue-generating assets. It focuses on how organisations can systematically manage and commercialise intellectual property to drive business growth and sustainable competitive advantage.
Participants will build practical skills in environmental scanning and patent landscaping, IP portfolio assessment, protection strategy selection, partner and market evaluation, and the development of implementable commercialisation plans. AI-enabled learning tools are also integrated throughout the course to enhance learning and practical application. Through applied workshops, analytics exercises, and a capstone commercialisation project, learners will strengthen their ability to integrate IP considerations across the innovation lifecycle and deliver sustainable commercial value from IP assets in real organisational contexts.

Dr. Rex Yeap

He is also a Partner at Invention Capital. His responsibilities include overseeing the creation and commercialization of innovative inventions, investing in and nurturing early-stage companies. Dr. Yeap was the former Chairman of the Business Angel Network (BANSEA). He holds a Master of Science (Distinction) from the University of Leeds, and his doctoral research involved the invention of several patented hedge fund systems. With over 30 years of experience in the Infocomm technology industry, he has worked across the value chain, including industry, government, and academia.
Dr. Yeap began his career in interactive digital media in the late 1980s, specifically in computer game design and development. In 1997, he was among the pioneering alumni of Kent Ridge Digital Labs, where he was involved in patent mapping and analysis. Since then, he has been continuously involved in numerous patent mapping, analysis, and strategy-related ventures. He has worked with a range of international clients in developing their IP road-mapping and commercialization strategies, utilizing proprietary and open innovation and patent analytics methodologies.

This course is designed to help professionals turn innovative ideas into tangible business value by effectively protecting, managing, and commercialising intellectual property (IP).
No prior IP knowledge is required. The course is structured to support beginners, although a basic understanding of business or innovation concepts is recommended.
It is ideal for PMETs, R&D professionals, business development managers, consultants, entrepreneurs, startup founders, and anyone involved in innovation, product development, or strategy.
You will learn how to protect IP, build IP strategies, identify commercial opportunities, and develop practical IP commercialisation plans using data-driven and AI-enabled tools.
The course consists of face-to-face classroom training over 3 days, followed by an individual online assessment.
The training runs on 25 & 26 June and 3 July 2026, with a 1-hour individual assessment scheduled between 8–10 July 2026.
The course fee is S$2,400 (before GST). Eligible Singapore Citizens and PRs can receive subsidies, bringing the fee down to approximately S$936. Additional support such as SkillsFuture Credit and SME funding may apply.
